Could anyone advise me on how to choose a microscope for my 10 year old's birthday?

I have my eye on this one www.taglearning.com/productdetails/Motic+DigiScope+300.html for when DS is a little older.

We've got two microscopes (DH's, bought 2nd hand off Ebay, so not specifically helpful I'm afraid) and the one which is the most useful/interesting to dd is definitely the lower powered binocular microscope, because you can use it to look at things without having to faff about taking a section of it, there is depth of field etc.
(Sorry, sure there are more technical terms, not a scientist myself.)
This article looks useful. The microscope that we have looks something like the bottom one here - didn't cost anything like that though, as I say it was from ebay, IIRC it cost around £80.

Hi, we got www.amazon.co.uk/National-Geographic-Piece-1200X-Microscope/dp/B002HWKY8W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys& qid=1279140383&sr=8-2
It's very nice!
