KS1 SATS 'Speaking and Listening'

Can anyone tell me what this is? How is it assessed? Dd has got a 3 but two of her friends got a 2 although from what I can see they are both generally WAY better at both speaking and listening than dd is. We're always having to phone them to ask what the homework is .

My ds got 1. His listening is fine apparently but he lacks confidence in speaking aloud in front of the class and teacher (show and tell, explaining project decisions etc).

So it's a general assessment type of thing? I'm just amazed that my dd got a 3 for it. She's so shy and has always been very reticent about joining in in the class. Maybe it's a misprint!
