Hello,

I'm looking for some info really about what 9 year old girls are into? Having lots of struggles with my youngest, so I'm trying to find some ideas of what other 9 year olds like to do, and how they spend their time. It's such a difficult age and I really want to get this right. What extra curricular activities do they enjoy? How often do they see friends outside of school, and do they have friends not from school?

Thanks in advance xx

Thanks for all the comments.

My daughter seems to be pretty much the same. But nearly all the girls in her class seem so much older. They don't play barbies, or schools or slime or colouring. It's all posing for selfies, make up, fashion, handbags and face time etc.

She seems to really be struggling to fit in anywhere, mainly because she is acting her age. Makes me so sad.

My 9 year old enjoys playing schools, drawing, playing with her generation dolls, arts and crafts, running around, going to the playground, dance
class, drama class.

She certainly doesn't have a phone or take selfies. She's also not interested in make up. Maybe joining a few extracurricular activities would help.....sports, arts and crafts, brownies? She sounds like a very normal 9 year old to me, so many kids are growing up too quickly these days.....

My daughter does various things, football, gymnastics, yoga and badminton and also learns piano and flute. She's just so unbelievably shy and really struggles to have anything in common with her peers.

I'd love to find an arts and crafts class as she loves this but there's nothing nearby for us. Some other suggestions though that I'll look into and hopefully she can find her tribe.

Honestly, she sounds great and has loads of hobbies from what you have said. Could it be that she's just more intelligent and well rounded than her peers are with all her hobbies and interests? Perhaps she's not that interested in them if all they are doing is taking selfies on their phones!

Age 9 was when I first got into pop music and started asking for CDs as presents or buying them with my pocket money. Suppose it's not the same anymore with streaming available on every device! I also started learning violin that year (Year 4) and passed my grade 1 exam at the end of Year 5. I continued playing the recorder which we had all started learning in Year 3.

I liked typing up stories on the PC and keeping a written diary in a notepad. I've always liked reading and seem to remember being very into reading about technology around that time (2000/2001 when computer and online stuff seemed to be developing a lot faster than it is now).

My daughter is nine and she enjoys taekwondo, cricket, brownies, clarinet/music practice, writing letters, reading, playing educational games on a tablet, crochet type activity sets, playing in mud kitchen in the garden, trampolining, painting her nails and doing glitter tattoos on herself and others.

She also loves play games like Uno, connect 4 and Monopoly. Watching movies at home.

She also loves going out to eat or to the cinema.

She likes typing on a Bluetooth keyboard that connects to a tablet. She likes listening to music too.

She also likes watching her brother play things like Minecraft on his laptop.

I arrange play dates for her every few weeks.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
