Leaving primary school present for a nephew from his uncle

Hi my much loved Nephew is leaving primary to go to senior school. He’s the first of me and my sisters children to do so. I love a bit of tradition so thought starting one would be nice and I’d buy him something to mark the occasion.

The big problem is I can’t think what to get him. It’s not that I don’t know what he likes it’s the type of present to get.
Do I go keepsake, something he would like, an experience for the two of us or something else.

Would very much welcome thoughts and/or ideas especially if you’ve already done it. Was going to budget under £50 or my sister will go mad and have 3x more to transition in next few years. We’re also NW based.

A fountain pen? Or a nice pen of another variety if they don’t use those at his school? You could get his name engraved on it if you wanted to go down that route - it’s a grown up sort of keepsake?

This is a really lovely concept and, as a Y6 teacher, I've seen a few of the kids have something similar over the years. Usually, it's been like a day out doing something memorable or a gift of something that marks "growing up" like a watch.

The only thing I'd avoid is a gift based on something he likes right now because that has more of a temporary feel to it.

@WimpoleHat
I think something engraved could be nice . I don’t think they use fountain pens but a nice engraved metal pen would be nice and I like the education theme thanks

Thanks for sharing that you have seen this done before. I was also considering a grown up day together. You have definitely convinced my away from a gift of something he likes now. It could all very well change in September and I don’t know why but I hadn’t thought of a watch.
