12yr taking pics of his penis

I check my son’s phone regularly… which he knows about.

What I think he doesn’t know is that when you delete a photo it goes in to a deleted file.

I checked this file and there’s a pic in there of his erection, and a short 20sec video clip of him ‘playing’ with himself (which I watched a second of!)

This is not a troll post!

I have deleted them out of his deleted file.

But what do I do now?…. Worst case scenario is he’s sharing them… but I can’t find on his phone where he would be doing that.

I have no idea if this is normal or not?! Do boys like to take pics of themselves?

Do no tiptoe about it. Tell him that what he is doing is borderline criminal - child porn. And he may be sexually exploited by a total stranger.
Even though boys have been measuring/comparing penis size with each other since forever, but thrown technology/internet into it, and it is no longer innocent "boys be boys".

This is from CEOP. Very useful on how to talk to your kids about this.

It'll be a difficult topic to approach but important for him to understand the seriousness if he's sent those photos to someone he's met online (grooming etc).
It's natural for boys to be curious about their bodies so it might all be innocent (fingers crossed!).

Please don’t normalise the phrase ‘child porn.’ It is child ABUSE.

When my son had his first phone the one thing I drilled into him was the issue of sharing photos.
My one question to him was” would you be happy if there was a massive photo on a billboard in the city centre where you go to school?” He looked at me with horror. He has understood from the very start that once out there you might as well have any photo you share in the National news.
It is quite normal for boys to compare their most important appendage but they need to understand how sharing any photo can be a problem.
It gets much worse mid teens when girls sell nudes to make a bit of money. DS had numerous friend requests on Instagram from girls, he worked out for himself that a number of them were probably scams or grooming sites.
I would have a good chat about it and how it can go seriously wrong if someone gets hold of photos an uses them to bully or extort money from him. Teenagers are ruthless nowadays and it’s always the ones you least expect.

It is a crime
