Jesusisking · 14/01/2021 19:12
Hello Ladies pls help......
My children are extremely afraid of spiders. They always steam & panic whenever they see one no matter how small the spider is.
Even my daughter that is almost 14 acts the same.
What should I do pls

Ignore , buy them a pet tarantula. Im not joking, they are fascinating creatures. I used to be petrified of spiders to the point of puking but i worked with them (indirectly) and now i love them.
Another idea is to give them names and chat to them. House spiders make me jump but im like, hello, how are you? Trying to get laid? Good luck....maybe change te dialogue

My 7yo was starting to get like this. We made a papier mache spider with pipe cleaner legs and put it on elastic and took her to visit the real spiders. It worked for a bit, by taking the 'hysteria' out of it. She's getting g a bit edgy about them again, so it might be time to take spidey for another walk...!

@TheoriginalLEM I'd agree I was awfully phobic and so was my dp. He got in to ants and then thanks to the discord chat about ants he got interested in tarantulas. We now have 9 and a box of slings on the way.
We no longer are totally scared in fact he's still more jumpy with them than I am. Watching their little foibles and seeing them eat, and moult and grow its spectacular. We got a freebie tiny timmy, a nhandu he was 0.5cm and missing a leg. He's now 3-4 inch and has all his legs.
I'd agree either buy a tarantula there's some really pretty ones. I'd also recommend watching a few YouTube videos on tarantulas dark den is pretty good. Even though general house spiders are not the same species as tarantulas they look similar.

Tarantulas are not the same as spiders!
I can easily handle a tarantula but a house spider I run a mile. I can cope with smallish ones but not big ones. Two out of my 3 dc are the same unfortunately. It’s not the end of the world, we protect the house from September onwards with plug ins and various sprays, and their fear of spiders encourages them to tidy up and clear piles of clutter so there are no surprises!

@bendmeoverbackwards I know they aren't the same but I am also no longer petrified of house spider either. So for me at least ownership of t's has helped me with house spiders too. Not saying it definitely would be for everyone.
