In Y6 a friend of my son (with no parental control whatsoever) started listening to some rap music and artist such as juiceworld and xxxtreme or something with XX.
I have listened to words and i am shocked about the glorification of drugs and gang culture (we are very much middle class).
I have blocked explicit content on his spotify account but still some songs are available albeit less explicit (what is the definition of explicit, i would like to know, because to me they are still explicit!!!)

Since then i have noticed that Capital Xtra plays those songs too (even at 8am!!!).
I am very prude? Out of touch?or is the world going a bit mad?

What do your kids listen to? Why is ed sheeran not cool enough????
(according to my son "everybody" knows juiceworld and he was even N1 in the charts ( i have questionned which type of charts it was??)

My son is into drill music. I have decided it’s just music. I watched some with him without judgment and was actually pleasantly surprised by it- one of his favourites is a song (using that term v loosely 😂) about being responsible in the pandemic! About wearing masks ect.. 😂 it wasn’t what I was expecting.
My son is very well behaved and fears the police (in a healthy way).. he once freaked out when we ate an Uber takeaway not meant for us that was delivered wrongly and we couldn’t find the real owners. He was sure the police were going to cart me away.
I work in a psychiatric hospital and we openly talk about drugs and the dangers. I have plenty of scary stories to put him off and educate him.
It’s just what’s cool nowadays and image is important at that age. Just be glad he’s sharing his interests and keeping you involved in them. :-)

My 11 year old listens to the same music. We live in a market town in the Midlands - I don't think gangs and drugs are any more a real issue for him than they were for me when I was listening to Guns n Roses as a teen in the 80s! It's just music - escapism and fantasy. I can't get worked up about it (even though some of it is bloody awful)
