Hi all, my 11 Yr old DD has just started her first period. 2 days in and it's crampy and medium flow. Am I write in keeping her off school for her first period to get to grips with it all?

I spent a fair bit of time in advance talking to my dd about the possibility and she had a pad in her bag just in case. I bought a couple of fun reusables and some period pants. She only uses them now (y7) and I have made some reusables for her that she has customised the design for.
She had lessons about periods in y6 and was delighted to learn that chocolate was seen as a legitimate thing to have to keep you going. Like dementor treatment in Harry Potter.
She also uses a hot water bottle.
It's a bit grim but not deserved of a day off. I also told her that every single female teacher or staff member would be able to help if something happened at school that she needed help with.
I also reminded her that Theresa May and the Queen had had periods so it was utterly normal.

I would probably keep her off. Maybe I'm just soft though.

Dd 11 and y6 started last month. No fuss and just breezed through it like she’d always been having them.

I wouldn’t keep a child off school for a period, unless it was very bad, making them feel ill etc.
