Period Pants - Update

A while ago I asked for recommendations for period pants and some of you recommended Modibodi.

One period later and DD and I are very happy with them. They wear well, she had no leaks (saying that, her period is luckily not that strong yet), she wore them for PE without issues (playing rounders).

I already ordered two more, the only negative point is that they take a while to dry and I find the sizing on the snug side, she wears either Red (teenage range) in 14-16 or size 8 in their adult range. Her normal trouser size is 13-14.

I also would wish for more colours in the adult one, a bit too much lace, DD is still 11.

I looked at others but DD liked the design and as we had major issues with her using towels and changing regulary I just went with the first ones she liked.

MummyBear - I know what you mean. Several people in RL told me off for using towels when a cup is soooooo much better. Well, I tried it and it didn't work.

There is no one fits all approach to periods.

I bought some of their adult pants for leakage problems when running. Fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend.

Just about to buy Cheeky Pants for my DC.

I bought myself 3 pairs just to try them and they are great, I will be buying myself 3 more pairs £26.95 for 3 pairs.

They also do a starter pack for £19.95 which I'm getting for younger teen.

You can wear them for up to 8 depending on flow.

I wore a pair in morning, a fresh pair for afternoon (3-4pm) and fresh pair over night.

I washed 2 pairs, before bed and dried them over night ready for morning was a bit of a faff but I only bought 3 pairs, hence now buying more.

The ones I bought are the equivalent of 4 tampons, I also wore them on lighter days, it was just like wearing normal knickers.

DD wears hers from morning until she is back from school. The Modibodis need to be rinsed cold and then a cold wash. They take a bit to dry though.

She has heavy/moderate flow ones so for the moment she can last the 8 hours. She has a pair for heavy/overnight she wore overnight with no issues. She calls them very comfy, she likes them especially for PE.

But, her flow is still low-ish, she only has her period since Christmas.

I looked into buying them for me, on heavy days no chance, I can't change in the office and I go through 1 tampon per 1-2 hours plus towel to keep clean, so I would only have them as back up.

But I am tempted for lower flow days as I find the towels do itch and a tampon hurts when the flow is quite low.

I got Diary Doll knickers for mine and they're fab. Black so no stains, snug fit to keep everything in place and super comfy.

If your flow is medium/heavy ish you know when you need to change a pad - you can see how full it is. How do you tell with these pants that it's time to get a new pair on ASAP?

We all have them (different brand) but use in conjunction with towels or tampons for extra security, plus I use for exercise all the time due to bladder issues. Best invention ever

Thanks op, I got them for dd and she loves them. We are away on hols soon and there is a chance that her period might come while we are away. There's a private pool where we are staying (how snazzy!) and so although these aren't swimming period pants, she might be up for giving them a go as bikini bottoms. Again, it's only me and dh there and if it doesn't work, it's no big deal. Which reminds me to pack a wet bag!

From what I've read the regular pants wouldn't work well as bikini bottoms as they would absorb the water, but they do do proper bikini bottoms - am hoping they come back into stock before I go on hols!

That's what I thought @oreosoreosoreos . But we'll give it a go. Dd doesn't swim very often. It's an experiment. And obviously water absorption is going to do for it! No one will see.

When I rinsed DD’s pants the whole pant got quite heavy with water and you could see the water turning red (sorry if TMI). I don’t think that they would stay comfortable and the water wouldn’t be nice anymore.

Have you tried mini tampons? DD’s best friend is a club swimmer and had to learn to use them quite fast and is comfortable using them.

My daughters put them on a 12 min rinse cycle in washing machine instead of rinsing by hand. Seems to work well.

She flatly refused putting anything "in there ". She's only 12, poor love - I was 14 when I started; I know better diets etc seem to mean girls starting earlier - All I can do is explain options . If our experiment is needed (due last day of hols) and doesn't go well, we can always paddle/just go free and consider plan B for another day.

DD has thinx and cheeky wipes

Cheeky wipes are very plastic-y. DD doesn't really like them and says they feel like swim wear so we use them for night times.

She loves thinx teen range and has the oldest size for the teen range which I think is 15-16 (DD is 11)

Thinx look and feel like normal pants

You rinse them out in the sink until the water runs clear, then put them in the washing machine on their own with no detergent but yes, they take yonks to dry

DD has the cotton thinx range which apparently have less odor

@FFSeverynameisused that’s interesting what you say about cheeky wipes as DD and I tried them and hated them- they have a weird plastic crinkly feel and the protected gusset bit seems to start really far back ie millimetres before the vagina (sorry TMI!) and then carries on all the way up your bum to the waistband!

We felt it needed to be more in the position where a pad would go ie cover the front a bit too.

It makes your bum feel all padded and horrible.
They put us off the whole concept of period pants but perhaps it’s worth trying a different brand?
