Dip-dying hair - is this a thing now?

Dd is 11 and has been going on about dip-dying her hair Hmm

I have no idea exactly what this is, where you get it done or how much it costs.

Can anyone shed any light? Personally I think 11 is too young for any sort of hair dye.

It's really easy. I did DD's last year and am doing it again this week.

  1. Use bleach blonde box dye on ends as per instructions.

2. Apply whatever colours you want (Manic Panic and Directions are the best non-toxic semi-permanent dyes).

3. Before she goes back to school in September get the ends cut off.

So it’s just permanent dye, you just put it on the ends?

11 is way too young to be dying hair. And dip dye went out of fashion a few years ago.

Well round here (big "trendy" city) most of year 6 dip dyed their hair for the end of term.

If hair is blond already just use the Live colours. It lasts a few weeks.

Plus pre-teens aren't exactly driven by high fashion. If they want it and you want to do it, go for it!

My daughter had hers purple a couple years ago I’m not sure if it’s still a thing or not but I thought when you did it like the photo they call it balayage or something?

It's just the ends and can get cut off in time for school.

It doesn't matter if it's the fashion or not, kids like to experiment with one of the few things they get to control in their lives.

Haha at the snooty "it went out of fashion years ago, no one dip dyes anymore".

If you don't mind your 11 year old dying her hair then a dip dye is pretty inoffensive and easy to get rid off if needs be.

I used Colorista burgundy on dd's hair last year. We only dipped a couple of inches of her very long dark brown hair. It was supposed to wash out gradually but it didn't really go completely but she was due a trim anyway.
She really loved having it done. She was 11.
Tried a blue this year but it didn't take.
