How much pocket money for a 10/11 year old?

My 10.5 year old dd currently gets £2 per week which doesn't sound like very much at all. She's quite good at saving up and I do treat her here and there on top of the pocket money.

She's the youngest of 3 girls and argues why should she get so much less? How much do you give and what does it cover?

I don’t give my 10 year old DD pocket money, just give her money or buy her things when she needs it. She does get extra money to save as rewards etc though

How much less does she get than the others? I don’t think you can give pocket money depending on age, seems a bit unfair. She should get the same as your other girls

11YO DS gets £5 a week and that is just spending money at the shop he goes to after football with his friend twice a week. He has everything else for paid by us and if he wants a PlayStation game etc when it’s not bday or Xmas then he saves some money each week until he has enough to buy it

My dd 11, gets £15 per month into her account.
She tends to save up and buy clothes, though we do buy them for her too.

I think pocket money by age is fine. My ds gets nothing regular but gets £1 for things such as tidying his room, doing well in spelling, rugby or especially desirable behaviour. It works out around £ 1 - £2 per week I would say. He can spend it as he wishes within reason. He goes half with me on presents for dd, dad etc but I buy all other gifts. He can earn extra by washing car etc.

My older two are teens - 14 year old gets £15/month and the 16 year old now gets £80/month to include clothes and pretty much everything.

But they got a similar amount to dd3 when they were 10!

Dd3 is very good at campaigning for more - she is questioning WHY she gets less than her 14 year old sister when she likes to buy similar stuff

We have chores for money - there's a list up on the wall - but my 11yo is my oldest and she is not at all motivated by money. However we are worried by how lazy and messy she is so have started this week that if she washes up 4 nights a week she can have £5 per wk. I will still buy clothes etc but hoping it gets her to save up for things and be a bit more tidy and house aware (also means she has to be away from a screen for half an hour!!)

Why such a big jump for the 16 year old?

sunshine until recently my 16 year old was getting £20/month. It was just spending money, we bought clothes etc. But we thought by 16 she should start to learn to budget for herself including clothes. So we give her £80/month to include everything. A lot of my friends with dc the same age have done similar.

10 year old gets £10 a month and the 12 year old gets £20. It seems about right to me - the 12 year old buys some of her own clothes and toiletries with her money, and the 10 year old is just starting to do that. They both get money at birthdays etc so usually have savings.

In Germany there's a very prescribed suggestion for pocket money depending on age, and it does increase with every birthday. It also suggests when you should switch from weekly to monthly pocket money. My dad is 9, and gets about €2,50, when she or I remembers

I think most people follow these recommendations, plus extra for lunch money if necessary.

Anyway, you can show your dad that increase with age is normal.

We increase by age here too. DD gets £10 per month paid onto an Osper card although here DGP do give her about £3 per week on top plus I pay for her phone. I think that’s more than enough.

My 11 year old DD is given £20 a month into her bank account. We pay for her phone.

My nearly 8yr old DD gets £2 per week, which I double if she saves up to spend on something that costs more than £5.

Whatever amount you do give just make sure they don't just waste it on buying too many sweets. Ds seems to think he can just squander his money no matter what so I am going to start paying him an extra £1 for doing a chore as mentioned above. Great idea and helps him become more aware of the need to help and take more responsibility. One of his friends has to save for games out of his pocket money also that is a great idea although I think I am a bit too soft to impose it. Perhaps half each I could try that ....

I think a lot of people say multiple their age by 50p, so a 10-year-old would get 5 pounds a week.
