Preteens
Anyone got a preteen with contacts?

DC2 is just about to go into Y6 and has talked about contacts. Does anyone else's preteen have them? What do I need to think about?

No but I would imagine hygiene (dailies make this much easier these days) and over wearing. It is very tempting to wear them for longer than is healthy for your eyes. Make sure he still wears his glasses for a good few hours a day.

My DD has had them from 9 without problems. They need to be able to put them in and take them out by themselves. She has daily disposables

DS will be starting Y6 too and optician suggested them at last check up but also pointed out NHS pay for glasses or contacts not both. So we've got glasses again but might try out contact lenses at some point in next year.
Lack of suitable hygeine measures would be my concern.

Yes hygiene is something I'm worried about especially as she was baking tonight and we caught her wiping the bottom of her foot with her fingers and was about to just carry on baking 🤑

Sorry to resurrect, did you go for them in the end? My dd is 9 and Is starting to ask.

My dd has had them since year 6. Daily disposables, at least two days off them per week. Year 9 now, never had any probs. DS tried them, couldn't get on with them at all. He's 11 now, he says he'll try again in a few years.

I have had lenses since 12 years old. Still do 10 years later. I tend to wear my glasses at the weekend.
Those who wear lenses who say “i have never fallen asleep with lenses in” are lying. It happens.
