If your 11/12 year old is wearing "proper" make-up ...

Looking for ideas for DD2's 12 birthday. I know that she would like some proper make-up (i.e. not random stuff off the front of girls' magazines!)

I don't wear make-up at all, so I'm clueless. If your similar aged daughter wears some make-up (and especially if she does it nicely!), can you recommend any brands/products that girls of this age are using?

I'm pretty sure every preteen/teenage girl that I've met wants or owns one of the Naked eyeshadow palettes and they are fab! Expensive but it does last.
It depends what sort of budget you have to be honest, the NYX range is good and slightly cheaper and does nice lip things if that's something she's into Smile
Things like benefit mascara and blusher/highlighter might be an idea? I'd say at that age a smaller amount of staple products is best to go for rather than a full face of foundation etc as she's still very young. So some eyeshadow, mascara, blusher is a good place to start!

Try Superdrug's makeup revolution. They do great copies of the naked pallets for a tenth of the cost.

That's true! I've had them myself and they do go on well Smile

I got my 13yo dsis a Naked palette and some of those sheer ysl lipsticks last year (as used by various youtubers). Most girls her age tend to love mac, But she's not so keen on the really intense colours. She does, however, quite like benefit because of the pretty packaging.

Have a look on tambeauty there's a few different brands with some lovely eye palettes and lipsticks for £1. I bought my daughter a load of stuff, there's some nice highlighters too.

I bought my 11 year old dsd a Kylie lip gloss (not the matte lipstick) for Christmas. She was thrilled with it.
Make Up Revolution stuff is very good, I have the Naked palettes and the MUR dupes and I prefer MUR.
Nyx is also very good.
MUR is sold in Superdrug and Nyx is in Boots.

This is good - thanks all! I'm feeling like I have some clue what I'm looking for now.

Could you not book her into a make up place (benefit, mac, bare minerals) and buy her some of the products from there?

Good thinking Fannydaggerz. I might save that thought up for her 13th, as this year we'll be on a campsite in the middle of nowhere on her actual birthday. I think she'd prefer something to unwrap and use straight away.

She will, of course, be easily the most glamorous camper in mid Wales!!
