DS and sleepover birthday party...

My about-to-turn 9 year old DS has asked if he can have 3 or 4 friends for a sleepover party this year. I have not hosted a boy sleepover before and DS has not been invited to any so was wondering if there was anything in particular to do / avoid?

My plan was to offer a 3 part invite anyway evening / overnight /morning so if anyone didn't want to stay they could come for just the parts they were happy with. For entertainment was thinking racing / party games on the Wii and DVDs, the DVDs I have in mind I will check with the Mums anyway as they are rated 12 (teenage mutant ninja turtles and transformers).

Has anyone got any advice or suggestions that would tell me this is not the best plan for this age group or if you have had one what worked well? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

My only advice is to offer PG rated films rather than 12s. Otherwise you put parents in a difficult position and/or embarrass their kids.

Do you think you could get 4/5 9yr olds to sit still and quiet for a whole film? A fifa championship on the x box might be a good idea. I can imagine my ds & his mates wrestling & play fighting all night

Teen - I am a bit unsure about what films to have on offer as the boys seem to be at an in between age for what is rated for them and what they actually like but will be checking titles and making certain all mums happy before hand ... any other film suggestions welcome though!

Lexy - no idea just thought I would have something on offer so that they could decide on what they want to do...

My sons have had quite a few birthday sleepovers and they do ordinary sleepovers too. I haven't found it necessary to organise things for them to do, to be honest. They are usually so excited about staying over and are old enough to decide what they want to do.

They all bring their tablets with them and play games against each other. My sons and their friends are more interested in computers than movies.

DS is into a lot of the 80's and early 90's cartoon due to DH's and my nostalgia but no idea if thundercats / ATeam / Knightrider would work with other boys?

Avoid sugar. Make loads of popcorn for the film. We usually do two films.

Get them all to bring sleeping bags if they have them.

I do make your own pizzas. They seem to enjoy it and it's a good way of making sure they don't have to eat things they don't what to eat.

No sugar! And miss the fun of hyped up boys charging round at 2am?

Yes was thinking pizza with an add you own toppings, loads of crisps and pop corn but think will have to hide some haribo for them to find for secret midnight snacks as well.
