Hi, just bought our 10 yr old daughter an iPod for her birthday and am now racking my brains for age-appropriate (ie non-sexual) music to download to it. Any ideas much appreciated! What are your kids listening to?

I do not censor what my 10 year old DS listens to. Instead I have had discussions with him about the way the entertainment industry portrays women and sex for the past 2 years or so since he was 8yo. IMO there is more need for information and education than censorship. After all most of it is discussed and yelled about in the school playgrounds anyway.

If downloading I just make sure DD selects radio edit versions of songs, or downloads compilations ones such as Now....albums, as we don't want songs full of swearing. Rest of it I am more laid back tbh

My ten and twelve year old DDs like Taylor Swift and Misty Miller., both of which are pretty OK (at least as much as I've heard). Otherwise to be honest they just download some of the tracks on our accounts (as they use either mine or DH's itunes account as they're too young for their own) and I try to make sure they aren't too dodgy fortunately they don't especially like my Tim Minchin songs yet

Personally I love anything by Panic! At The Disco.
Especially Nine In The AFternoon, with a very lovely message.
Or perhaps Girls/Girls/Boys, don't be fooled by the name, it is a loving song that does mention relationships, however in a sensible manner.
Also, fun. - Its get better, which encourages a positive attitude towards life.
Pierce The Veil - King For A Day, about managing your responsibilities.

I would into the bands I have mentioned as they are suitable!

My Chemical Romance
Jake Bugg
Paramore
The Vamps

Some of the Now or Dance Party / Pop Party but compilations seem to be safer

my dd has
Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Pink and other similar music (she doesnt like any of the boy bands)

My DD11 likes Katy Perry, little mix and the NOW albums.

I have also tried her on some 80s music and she prefers Crowded House and DuranDuran (the latter was achieved by setting my iPod to Duran only for a fortnights holiday!). DS was brainwashed simultaneously....
