Leaving 11 year old DD at home alone

Dh was rushed into hospital yesterday with a broken shoulder and unfortunately I can't find anyone to care for DD after school today. Would it be ok to leave her at home alone for an hour until I finish work? She is 11 and very mature for her age. We live in a very quiet street and she knows all the neighbours but I still am a bit unsure as she hasn't been left for that long before, usually 10 mins while I run to the shop. She is very excited to be home alone and proud that I trust her. What would other parents do?

It will be fine honestly.

Yes.

From age 11 dd didnt have a child minder and was home alone every day after school for a couple of hours. If she's fine with it then its ok.

Of course it's ok. I have been leaving my 12 year old alone vor several years (starting with 15", but now for 3-4 hours). An hour is not long at all.

She'll be fine, our DS 11 does this some days after school, he is the mature, sensible one. Set some ground rules, be contactable. She will be fine.

Thank you for setting my mind at rest. She will love it and she has my phone number, work number and iMessage so will be fine I'm sure. Thank you all so much for replying

Definitely fine to do this. We leave our 10year old alone for us to hour now and again. She loves the independence!
Hope your dh is ok?

Yes, she will be fine.
My 11 year old comes home from school before I get home from work most days, and he is fine.

VivaLeBeaver · 22/05/2014 07:45

Hope your dh is home soon btw.

Yes. Now leave my 11 year old DS for this length of time in preparation for high school in September. Usual rules of not answering the door, list of telephone numbers left handy etc.

Well I came home to a tidy house and a cup of coffee! She had put the washing up away and the laundry on! Now I just have to think of a nice reward for her
