Bedding/duvet/room decor for 11 yo boy going on 16

My 11yo son is currently complaining that this room/decor/bedding is too babyish.

He wants to paint it black !

We have been googling to find bedding/room decor ideas that aren't "logos", ie not Superman, Dr Who, but he is rejecting most of them...
any ideas/website suggestions please. what passes muster for your preteens/teens?
He has to have 100% cotton bedding, not 50:50 due to dermatitis. I am not hugely price sensitive on this and happy to pay for quality stuff which lasts.

Thanks !

Ds1 (10) got to pick some fabric and I ran up curtains and a duvet cover for him.

Is there a fabric shop nearby that you could try and if you can't sew, get someone to do it for you?

More options and less cost. Ds1 picked a black fabric background with skulls on it. It's not to my taste but it's his room.

I am planning to decorate my sons bedroom for his 10 th birthday.

He also likes black, so we are going to paint the room in horizontal bands -black near the floor, then white and pale grey in the middle and bright green at the top. So he will have black but only on the bottom quarter of the walls, hopefully it won't be too dark.

I will buy bright green and grey bedlinen and a platform bed with desk underneath from ikea . I'll also buy white and black shelves

I had a black bedroom with silver stars and things. I loved it!

A friend has done her sons bedroom:

Lime green walls
Black furniture and bed linen
Black soft armchair opposite a tv/game station
Hooks up one wall full of baseball caps
Dart board

Doing DS2s at half term. He's gone for pale sky-grey walls, black and white furniture, black rug and duvet cover, with decals of rock guitars, framed posters of favourite musicians etc on walls, moody lighting and some really bright shots of colour in accessories. It sounds quite bleak but we looked up lots of teen bedrooms on Pinterest and the monotone ones looked great. I was just so relieved not to use black paint on the walls, I was happy to go for it elsewhere in the room.

Thanks all - black is clearly the way to go, I just need to find a way not to have black paint on the walls - too depressing !

Jack Wills? My 11yo has their Union Jack set. Spenny but looks great and good quality cotton.

This website has a good range at reasonable prices.

really?? black bedding for a boy. You might get a year to 18 months out of it before you'll have to change it daily.
Does he like any animals? You can get HUGE murals in all sorts of colours where the animals are in shadow, so there's quite a lot of black, but it's not dark as to make the room look like the black hole of calcutta. That way you can get bedding that wont show the white stains as though they've got a huge flashing neon light on them

What about grafiitti wallpaper or wall stickers? Or skateboard wall stickers? My DS has large flags on his wall, a barcelona one and a brazil one.

Booksteensmagazines · 31/05/2014 21:35

I saw a photo on Facebook of a twelve year old's bedroom where one wall was wallpaper which was a black and white photo of the New York skyline - it looked amazing and the mum said she got it from amazon. She then had a duvet in grey and some cushions with American flag etc for colour.

JessyJames · 31/05/2014 22:11

I've redecorated my 11 yr ds bedroom in red, white and blue. Three scarlet walls, one White one, navy blue carpet and union flag bed linen and curtains. Also got a big wall sticker of a navy blue flag and put it on the white wall.
All looks very smart and not childish. It didn't cost too much as the curtain fabric and sticker came from ebay. He is very pleased!

DS1 (14): light blue walls, blue bedding.

DS2 (12): pale green walls, green bedding with geometric pattern.

DS3 (nearly 10): pale yellow walls, bedding is monochrome with yellow NYC taxi.

AuntieStella · 01/06/2014 22:07

Sheldonesque.

With tatty old Doctor Who posters as well.

Methenyouplus4 · 03/06/2014 19:32

We've went for beige walls with maps on them, skateboards as shelves, distressed lockers as wardrobe so looks like an industrial architect's office! Bedding is old maps of new York, from Asda but not sure what % cotton.

Teapot74 · 09/06/2014 19:16

White bedlinen and a throw the colour of his choice. Neutral walls and large framed posters which can be changed according to taste and don't look scrappy. + the best beanbag you can buy.
