What age is is ok to start waxing ?

I have an 11 year old who is becoming quite hairy and was just wondering what people do and at what age they do it. I didn't start waxing til late teens and I wish I had started earlier. I can't imagine letting her loose with a shaving device or even creams as she wouldn't have the patience. It doesn't really bother her at the moment but just wanted to know the options before it does.

well you could use veet(immac) as its not as painful, am just going through the same with my 10 yr old. She doesn't really need it but has 2 Bf's with hairy legs (bless them) so is feeling left out.
I do wax my 14 year olds legs & armpits and have done for past year (did waxing course!!) so its pretty cheap and easy to do but have said at 16 she can have choice of present and it includes laser hair removal.
I had moustache sadly at her age age, not Adolph but still i knew it was there despite being queen of disguise with bleach treatments....
I think depilatory cream/foam at 11 if necessary is ok and wait a few more years for waxing, of course through winter & spring its not necessary so its not all year round.
Its a tough one, not to make them old before their time etc but being supportive enough to know kids can be brutal with the truth and bloody mean so am prepared to do it for them but would not allow a razor(part of agreement or waxing stops) as its too dangerous.
when she is older beauty school always need students if you live near one for discounted rates??
the IPL offers on groupon etc are fab prices too but 16 is age limit just for your info.

However, I'd stick to waxing and not go near shaving. When you start shaving that young the 'hairyness' becomes so much worse when you're older.

I got my dd those cold waxing strips from The Body Shop as she had been using my razor and dh's razor in the shower and cutting herself (very scary).

She doesn't have hairy legs but, as a previous poster said, a couple of good friends do and it had made her aware. (She is 10 btw).

I thought that it would remove the hair without the dangers associated with other methods. I also hoped it would avoid the heavier growth that seems to be associated with shaving.

The result was that she did one strip and was so affronted by the pain that she has decided to remain natural for now

Shaving doesn't make hair grow heavier. Because the hairs are cut off rather than plucked out or chemically destroyed, they have blunt ends, the regrowth is stubbly and they appear thicker.

I'd be wary of using strong chemical creams like Nair or Veet on such young skin tbh. A battery shaver is probably safest.

My dd isn't hairy yet.

My SIL is very hairy and poor dd is taking after her in every other way so I suspect she will in that dept. Poor SIL has to have her stomach and toes waxed and everything. SIL has a real complex about it and got no support from my MIL (who is lovely just clueless on this front).

It is good to be prepared just incase.

The upside is dd will probably be dark so able to have laser treatment if she is bothered.

My DD has a thing about her hairy knees. she has seen me shaving my legs and decided to have a go herself.
It took about a week for the scabs to fall off.
one thing I would say is this, don't shave their 'taches off. DD has a friend who is Indian. Yesterday we went to a theme park with her and her sister. Both girls looked like Freddy Mercury because their mum had been shaving their top lips and hadn't done it for a couple of days. Poor poor girls. Mum uses bleach, but the girls get Gillete.

Thanks all, will wait on the waxing until it starts to bother her. Battery shaver sounds like a good idea as the battery epilady type things will just be too painful (my experience anyway). She has not yet started secondary school and I am just thinking about pre-empting the nastiness that sometimes happens in secondary school. At least if she gets teased at school, we have a plan.

My daughter is 11 and has quite alot of hair on legs and underarm. While i am keen to wait she wants it removed before starting high school in 3 days, so have bought some strip wax as thought this would me a more natural option than shaving and using creams. Has anyone tried this and do u think this is a safe option? P.s. she started her period yesterday too! Poor thing...

I just bought some silky mits off t'internet. I remember them from when I was a teen, they're like a very fine sandpaper mit that you rub round in circles over your legs (doesn't hurt at all - they're very soft!) and the hair disappears. Would be a good alternative to the chemicals and creams and no pain like epilators/waxing.

Doingitformyself - thanks, but i don't think the mitt would do it, i have tried that for myself, unfortunately asian hair can be dark and thick, but willing to give anything a go that is the least reactive and painful!

I'm of Italian descent so pretty dark & hairy here too! I'll give it a go and see what happens - I remember being super impressed with them when I was younger as you also get lovely smooth skin!
