Pre-School in Lewisham (Hither Green)

Does anyone have any advice / info / ideas about possible pre-school options for my 3 year old DS in Hither Green?

I feel a bit stupid about this but we're at a loss and it feels really important that this is something he does.

Just to give you a bit of background, he's been going to a childminder for 3 days a week since he was 1. We've moved quite recently to a different part of Hither Green and before we did so, my DH rang Hither Green Primary to see if we'd have any problems getting him in (as it's now our nearest school). They said no and to wait until we'd moved before putting his name down. After movIng in March, I visited the school and filled in the forms and they told me that there is no chance of him being offered a place in September and very little chance in January. They also can't tell us until December if anything becomes available. Their suggestion was to not rely on them but to send him to
a private nursery (have they seen the waiting lists?!
We'd have done that in the first place if they hadn't told
us we'd have no problems getting a place!)

So now we feel stuck and frustrated because we knew this was something we wanted for DS and so actively engaged in the process. I'd be surprised if we were
offered a place in any of the other primary nurseries
because we're too far away and they've already
allocated places. I've been Internet searching and
asking around for ages and just can't work out what to
do next.

Sorry if I sound a bit ignorant about all of this!

The ones I have heard of that are good are Rodetts in Lee and Newstead Road.

Try the village montessori in Kingswood Halls - there's been movement on the waiting list there recently and it is an excellent setting.

Ohhh, would be very cautious about the Village Montessori. It is a nice nursery, but its run by a woman who appears to lack any social manners. I know a few friends who have had a really unhappy time there.

There's a Facebook page for the Lewisham NCT - you could try posting on hereto see if anyone has any advice
