dd is 3 in july. we applied to 2 local nurserys, 1 was 1.5 miles away and she didnt get a place, the other we havent heard from still as they havent done the places yet. ive been told its not a great school and parents are trying to get their dc moved to other schools, the ofsted is satisfactory.

not sure whether to wait and see and apply elsewhere for reception if its no good or to ring otehr schools, most have already sent out places now, there is a catholic school over a mile away but we arent catholic and a good school a mile teh other way which is very oversubscribed and take 26 dc all in the same nursery class mornings and afternoons so half wont get into reseption.

dont know what to do??

Do you have any local community pre-schools?

Alternatively, try talking to your local county Early Years team, they should be able to help.

I have the same problem with my youngest ds.
Oldest dc's go to school outwith catchment, so applied to the nursery attached-for the first time in years they were oversubscribed!! He is on waiting list so have fingers crossed.

The catchment nursery is also very oversubscribed, with their ballot for places to take place soon. But here's the rub-if you dont get a place at this nursery, you are offered a place at the nursery i was refused!

We are able to defer entry (in Scotland) so might do that but just wish the ballot was over and done so i knew what i was going to do!

i have phoned the catholic nursery and they are sending paperwork, the ofsted is outstanding but kids have to attend weekly mass and are sent for confirmation, we arent catholic and it feeds a catholic secondary school so im not that happy.
i also phoned the oversubscribed school and they think they may have a place and are sending details too, but as i said they take 52 nursery places and then half wont get into reception so its rubbish.
i checked the local authority website, it says nursery places are allocated by the nursery wheras reception places are allocated by the council purely on distance (after kids in care) and if your child doesnt get a place there is no appeal as nursery isnt compulsory.
im tempted to keep her at home rather than send her to a dirty nursery but maybe its just heresay, (and a crap ofsted).
