preschool playgroup stress

hi, advice needed please!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have managed a playgroup for five years now with various commitee members coming and going. I am sure you have heard it all before. I have been informed by my treseurer that she is resigning along with the chair. the agm was in sept this year. we have adopted the PLA 2008 constitution. where does this leave the playgroup. Can they resign, will we have to close, my head is spinning i dont know what to do. I have spoken to the staff who want to keep the setting open. we have been open for 30 years. it would be a shame to close as we have got children on the waiting list.

Do you belong to an organisation such as PATA?

I think the constitution does not allow for resignation unless the committee is left with at least 5 other elected members. So if your committee originally had seven elected member then yes they can resign and their roles must be taken over by other elected members.

If they with to resign still they may have to call an extraordinary general meeting and reelect a committee, but I find that you generally get more support if this is held during a normal preschool session and you tell parents that if people are not elected to the roles then they will need to collect their DC immediately as the preschool cannot leagally run without a full committee in place - normally gets you some volenteers quick smart.

This is not your problem though however worrying it is for you. The committee once voted is duty bound to ensure that a full committee is in place.
