Over the weekend we have been told that there is not alot of money in the bank and the school isn't sustainable due to the low number of children attending. Does anybody know of any grants or fundraising that will help us cover staff wages and room hire we really don't want it to shut. Many thanks.

Speak to your County Council Early Yrs - if it is just a short term problem ie new children will be starting later on you may be able to get a sustainability grant.

Also in some areas County Councillors are given money under the Empowering Cllrs scheme - we got £1K from ours for new toys for 2 yr olds.

What age can you take from - we were in this position last yr with only 5 children registered for the September. Committee made the decision to allow children from 2yrs rather than 2 yrs 6 months to effectively bring foward the start date of several children. They are all 2.5 now and things have picked up - we are now making a small weekly profit and next term will make a weekly profit of £100+ which will help sort out the finances from the Autumn term when we lost £1500.

Like toomanyprojects, every other year we take children from the age of 2 (rather than 2.5)to help with numbers. Have you thought of this?

Are you a member of the Pre School Learning Alliance? If so, they may be able to guide you in the right direction. Also, get in touch with your Early Years advisory teacher asap, ours has been really helpful lately when it comes to applying for grants and much needed support.

look at negotiating reduced room hire and the possibility of making one member of staff redundant too?

Surrey offers sustainability grants.

hi , many sympathies for your predicament. We are in the process of gaining sustainability grants from county council. Good luck
