What is the purpose of a pre-school parent committee?

our preschool is run by the parents committee and I wondered what it was all about

They are (sort of) the owners of the preschool responsible for fundraising,CRB checking, social events, pay, etc. It varies from group to group depending on the structure. The preschool leader and staff make the decisions about the curriculum and care of the children though.

nope we havent. So its important for all parents to know that their input is vital.

Yes, it's really important that parent's know that the committee's input is vital, although often, a lot of parents don't realise that at all. Obviously it is up to the committee to get that message across, which is easier said than done.

We, as a committee, employ the staff, pay all the Pre-school bills and manage the budget, make all the management decisions, fundraising and often lots of other little things that need doing as and when.

It should be compulsory to be on the committee, especially if it's a small pre-school. We have had lots of problems with people not bothering to join as they think that as they get the NEG then they don't have to do anything as it's all free!
