my friend will need a lot of child care for a fortnight or so and is wondering if her 2 yr old ds could go to a nursery for some of it? it would not be a permanant arrangement.

i have no idea how nurseries work but i bet some of you guys do...??

I think it would depend on how much space the nursery had, if they have the spaces then I dont think they would turn her away. Does your friend have any nurseries in mind? she could contact them and see what they say.

really? so its not totally out of the question then? i have no idea at all how they operate, whether there are waiting lists or that kind of thing. there are quite a few where we live, i'm just asking y'all first as my friend was worried about asking nurseries stupid questions!!

Added to say that I know someone who only needed a space for 2 days, a couple of weeks apart, and the nursery agreed.

I think it depends on the nurery. They dont all have waiting lists all the time. It can depend on the time of year also. Around August all the pre-school children leave to go to school, freeing up a lot of space.
