Does anyone know? DD due to start school nursery (private school) next september but found a montessori she can start in jan so will split her sessions between both, just been told by a friend that if you have sessions at a private school nursery you cant split the funding.

No you can't split the funding, only one place can claim.

But in a state preschool you can split the funding, so why not here?

I have just this minute filled in a form from ds's private nursery giving them permission to claim the funding and it states

"If your child attends a local authority nursery calass or school for less than 5 sessions per week, you cannot claim the balance elsewhere"

I think you may be able to
The form I filled in has a space to name the other free nursery education received

best to call the early years dept at your council

You can split the funding between two non-maintained settings (private/independent/voluntary settings that aren't ran by the LEA) but you cannot split between a maintained (LEA ran) and a non-maintained setting.
