dd3 has started nursery, but isnt talking there

she has onyl had two sessions, but all those worries about when dd2 started have returned. (dd2 didnt speak at nursery for over 6 weeks, and the teachers were asking about possible autism) i know dd3 can talk, she is very chatty and articulate at home, and will talk to people when out and about.

and i know its v v early on, but its like she has become a different child when she is there.

its normal though? isnt it?

who was she with before she started the nursery? as if you, then its a big change for your DD3 as youre not there....so yes its normal

can you go with her for a session to help settle her in?

i went with my DD 3 times before i felt she was ready to let me go abit.

i have been there yesterday and today. left her for an hour today. she just looks so lost. and comes running back to me sucking her good fingers (other hand is still bandaged).

i think she is over whealmed by everything going on there.

and yes, itsthe first time she has been away from me and dh since dh transplant, so its to be expected.

she is so excited and happy to be going there, but then goes all shy and quiet. its like she has become a different child.

she was even chatty to everyone in hospital, telling them all about her hand.

Misdee - DD is probably more comfortable in hospital than she is at school because she has spent a lot of time there with you and DH. She'll soon settle in to school and they won't be able to stop her talking. I bet she's not the only quiet one. I know this doesn't help right now but you know she chats away. It's just a big change. I'm quite quiet when I'm in a new situation until I suss everyone else out!

My DD speaks completely fluently at home, but when starting nursery barely spoke for the whole year she was there. By the end of the term she had slightly warmed up and would say the odd thing.

She was always very enthusiastic about going and enjoyed herself. She just was, and still is, incredibly slow to warm up.

DD1 didn't talk at nursery for ages. It was just her nature - suss everything out quietly until you feel confident. Then start talking. And don't stop. Ever. Well it feels like that, anyway

her aunt also works there, aunty lisad123 told me that yesterday dd3 looked a little lost.

she didnt speak again today, but went in ok and came out happy as larry, so am sure she likes it.

auntylisad123 saw her today. managed to get a hello out of her.

will call her later to see if dd3 actually said anything there yet.

what stage do you start worrying more about it? i didnt talk at school for years, was happy there but just didnt talk.
