Tormead and Guildford High School

Interested in views of parents who have experience of Tormead and Guildford High School, we’ve got offers for the Prep for both schools. We went to the visit days, and both were impressive, so finding it hard to choose, we are new to Guildford and any views would be great to hear?

Tormead is a lovely environment and highly recommend. GHS is what it is and is popular because of its academic reputation. Tormead also very good in terms of value add and GHS often offer Tormead prep girls places for senior school too.

Looks like, from another thread in the Private School section that GHS are packing their classrooms this year, as someone else suggested - likely preparing themselves for RGS going co-ed, or trying to increase income to support other members of the United Learning group that aren't doing to well.

Can't comment on a GHS experience myself, but my Tormead one was faultless and girls had a wonderful time there.

We're moving out of the area now to Oxford, but were very much considering Tormead for our DD. Very impressed by the whole place.

We didnt even consider GHS, its a very small site and shares.sports facilties with an open, public access (24/7) park (stoke park). They've also dropped their entry requirements significantly as fiends who applied were shocked their DDs got in. I think theyve opened a new class. Rumour locally is the rest of the group is having a struggle and the cash cow which is GHS needs to be packed full to suport it.

Im sure, however it wil remain academically successful and if that's your thing, go for it. But in my mind, its just another school these days, but one driven by a business model as its owned by what is effectively a company, not a charity with a board of governors.
