Do you need to show proof of address when signing child up for reception

I’ve just signed my daughter up for reception starting this September, gave my address and all the other details but was never asked for proof of address/that I’m in the catchment area (I am) but I thought you had to provide proof of address? Is this not the case or does it vary from county to county? Thanks

When we applied we had to give the council tax number which had our name on.

Many LAs ask for the council tax number or other proof on application, others ask later in the process.
