Nursery medicine administration

Hi everyone,

Im new here so bare with me please!

My daughter has just turned 4 and has been going to a school nursery since April 2022.

She has had issues with constipation since starting solids and has been on Cosmacol ever since.

I have to constantly be at her to drink her juice (blackcurrant with one satchet of Cosmacol) if she doesn’t have 2-3 satchets a day she will not go to the toilet. Even if she misses a day it has a knock on effect.

When she first started nursery she was only on two satchets a day which I would get in her before and after school. When I would pick her up from school she would have hardly drank her water which was concerning me then.

Now she has to have three satchets a day so I had to fill a form at school for them to administer her medication (bottle of pre-made juice with a laxative in).

The staff member whose group she is in wasn’t best please as it seemed to be an inconvenience for her. I believe she puts her drink on a shelf out of the way so the other children don’t drink it.

Before Christmas I had voiced my concerns as she was leaving school and her juice bottle had hardly been touch (if any at all). I spoke to reception about reducing her down to half days to ensure she was drinking enough and getting her medication in her.

I was reassured they would try to improve the situation to make sure she didn’t miss out being reduced to half days, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept her in full days.

The first week started well and things looked to be improving, we then had Christmas break and when she returned she was back to having no juice drank at all. I gave a week to let them settle back into routine.

But now we are coming into February and nothing has changed! I’ve made a complaint to the school as she has been really I’ll this past week. The reception team have come back to me saying the staff are saying that she is point blank refusing to drink saying it is “yucky”.

This is extremely unlikely to me as like I said earlier she has drank this since she was able to drink water/juice. Another issue with this is I’ve not once been informed she is refusing her juice!

What do I do!? Do I just reduce her hours, im a freelancer and work from home, so it would mean I wouldn’t necessarily be able to take on as much projects.

Help 😩
