Hi everybody,

I have 3 months old boy and I realize, I have to sign him to school already.
Can anyone recommend one?

We've been to Colet court (from age 7). I have to find pre-prep. Does anyone have any suggestion??
Few names would be a big help, as we are not originally from UK.

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Paulina

Where in London?

Giaa · 01/02/2008 10:02

No matter where if it's a good school that can get him to good high schools.
But we now live in WC1.

I only really know the schools around Dulwich. Not a huge trek from WC1 but you could probably find decent schools closer. If you think you might move in the future though Dulwich is a nice place to live and only 10 minutes from Victoria on the train.

There are good pre school, pre prep, prep and independent secondary schools clustered in a relatively small area. Look at Herne Hill school (the DS's went there - it does great preschool and pre prep), James Allen Prep/Girls (co-ed 4 to 7 then girls only to 18), Dulwich College Prep School - boys from 3 - 13, Alleyns co-ed from 4-18. Dulwich College from 7-18.

Not entirely sure you need to put his name down at 3 months, as you will pay for an assessment to take place for reception places at least and entrance will be on the basis of that. At Herne Hill School children in the preschool got automatic transfer to pre prep without assessment.

Also Newton prep - does pre prep but not preschool as far as I remember. I don't know very much about Newton though.

That should be enough to get you started!

Another thought Dulwich College Kindergarten school (DuCKs) does day nursery, pre school and pre prep. Co-ed, very popular with parents who want their boys to go onto Dulwich College at 7.

Wetherby (W11) but you are close to being too late - get on and call them. Also Notting Hill Prep. Have friends who love Hill House (SW1) and a bit more reasonable about registrations/giving places I think.

Look at Newton Prep - great school if he's bright and they assess for entry so you dont need to worry about getting his name down early.

Not sure if you are aware but Colet Court is one of the most competitive schools in West London and EXTREMELY hard to get into - they really do take the best of the best! Your little chap would need to pass their 7+ exam to get into it but that is a whole other story (and one that will become clear when you start!). My son is at The Falcons in Chiswick so too far from you but it is part of the Alpha Plus Group of schools (also includes Wetherby as someone mentioned above). Good luck!

Some possibles are charterhouse square school, lyceum, or st pauls cathedral school, they would all be reasonable commute from WC1

Hi Giaa, have a look at www.londonpreprep.com - it has profiles for all the best pre-prep schools in London depending on your area. Check out Hill House School, Knightsbridge School, Newton Prep, Thomas's Kensington and many more - lots of great schools. Other than Wetherby and a very select few others you don't have to worry much as long as you put his name down within the next year.

As this thread started 4 years ago, I dare say her DS has either started or is in the midst of offers by now.
