Hi

My son goes to reception in sept 2023. He’s been offered a place in Shrewsburys house prep and Rokeby. Which school is better. My son is very active so definitely enjoys his play time etc. we want a balance of both academics and extra curricular activists. Any help would be appreciated

Hi. Our DS is at Shrewsbury and we declined Rokeby. It was the right decision. Really well rounded school with lots on offer. Strong academically and in extra curricular. For us the facilities and ethos at Shrewsbury felt better for DS. Good luck!

Thank you. We also declined Rokeby and opted for Shrewsbury as we really felt it was a lot more suited to our son. Looking forward to next year when DS actually starts reception. I feel reassured after your reply 😍

Our son was at Shrewsbury House Prep School, but he lived one or 2 great experiences, then COVID hit the school badly, then the Executive head left the school, and it has gone down the drain!! Staff moral is bad, the new executive head is clueless and there is no clear direction. Boys can not leave at the 11 plus as scholarship classes were scrapped, to protect the school’s business continuity till year 9. Very greedy at the expense of student’s ambition. Parents are encouraged to subscribe their boys for 8 « future schools », and majority did not get offers for future schools, very sad to know!!
For what parents pay, I would take any other prep school over Shrewsbury House!!

I think the OP is talking about Shrewsbury House Pre Prep (til 7) rather than the Prep based on the fact she’s posted under Preschool…

I have no connection to the school other than it was an option I was considering. Seems to be a lovely nurturing school.

@goodparent I appreciate this is couple of weeks old but just wanted to sorry you’ve not had the experience you’d hoped for. We are also considering the school but I’ve heard several people share your sentiment, along with notion that 95% of their success with onward schools is down to the work that parents and tutors put in with the boys outside school. Did you find the school was open to feedback and responsive when concerns were raised?

How about rokeby ? Any Experience?

@Goodparent Did you feel the more naturally able boys were pushed and given more opportunities ?
We are looking at schools for our son and SHS is on our list.

Hi, I am considering between Shrewsbury and Donhead school. Will be visiting both soon. @wimbledonwanderer - can you cite specific bad reviews that you heard. I am keen to send my DS to a school which has an academic rigor along with holistic development especially sports.
