My summer born boy is doing well with phonics, maths and reading in Reception however his school has said that he says 'i don't know' frequently to a lot of quite simple questions and is not able to go into a lot of depth in his responses as the other children are. At home, I do also get the same 'idk' answer when he clearly does know! But there are times when I have seen him hold long and detailed conversations (for a Reception child!) with me and ppl he is familiar with. Seems to be something holding him back or something going on at other times. Any advice or idea of how I can help come out of his shell more with his verbal interaction?
