Hi, I am considering (Stephen perse , perse and saint faith ) for my little one , though I find it hard to get a proper understanding from visiting the schools ! I am afraid , am not good at it ! I would appreciate feedback from mums here ! This would help me to decide which school to choose for him for his better future !
Your advise and time is much appreciated !
Many regards

The Stephen Perse foundation WAS good. But apparently it is now Failing. Most students and parents deeply regret having chosen this school.

If you wish to waste your (or your children’s) most valuable final 2 years of high school education, or, if you are generally not concerned with academic success, please choose the Stephen Perse Foundation.
If you (or your children) seek support from responsible teachers who are enthusiastic with teaching, value boarding houses that make you feel at home and secure, and hope to get a place from good universities, please turn away to Hills Road / The Perse School / Cardiff sixth form college, whenever possible.

The following are honest comments from current students.

Boarding:

  • Please do not get tricked by the pictures the foundation puts on advertisements - those rooms are not for students. Our rooms are much smaller and older.
  • The website states that the boarding house is open 24/7, but it is closed during the day. This means students who have free lessons cannot have private spaces to concentrate. This has been discussed with the head of boarding yet replied with disrespect.
  • Food are in Small portion sizes and unhygienic despite repeated complaints

School:

  • unsupportive teachers (Not all of them are bad. But you have to be really really lucky to be taught by the responsible teachers)
  • Teachers just grade essays without giving comments. Teachers apparently love reading rather than explaining. They take free slides online, read them out to students without explaining and require students to work on their own. These slides are free and of poor quality, often not made according to the exam syllabus. Most of us are either self studying or hiring private tutors. If teachers are not teaching why pay thousands of pounds a term for it?
  • They have cut teacher’s pensions and teachers are leaving.
  • As an independent school, it lacks support for students applying for competitive universities. In terms of aptitude tests, super curriculum and personal statement guidance.

Please think long and hard before considering this fallen school.
