Found a letter in my sons tray at p'school today, congratulating him on being selected for a book of 'first poems' from pre-schools around uk. I had no knowledge of this but apparently the children 'wrote' poems and entered a comp to get in this poetry volume and now dh and I can purchase the book at a discount prior to publication.

The poem is very sweet listing his favourite things (me included) etc. but he didn't write it all really iykwim. TBh I have no idea how many of the children in his school are 'winners'. So I am torn between feeling proud of ds and annoyed at yet another cash generating product from our pre-school. I have already purchased tea towels with childrens foot/ hand prints and there was a pro photographer in last month I am no obligation to buy these things - but you just do don't you!?

So am I experiencing an abnormally high amount of product placment in this pre-school or do I have to get used to this kind of thig? Ds is my eldest so it is all new to me.

Am I being a cynical old hag by even questioning the validity of a poetry book 'written' by pre-schoolers? Maybe I am

DS's pre-school was involved in this - there was a pre-written poem where they put in words that were relevant to them. There was a website about it that I looked at and I should think the book will be very dull, as it will be the same poem a lot of times.

As you might have gathered, I haven't bought it .

I think you had to send something back saying that they could use it and as I didn't DS's work won't be seen anyway .

Thank you Idris - so I can forget about ds being the next poet laureate for the time being - the same poem over and over will be v dull how disappointing

Almost certainly a money-making scam from the publishers. Tell 'em to get stuffed.
