DD is starting preschool after her 3rd bday next month so i told her that...

i wont be there with her.

her face just went

"noooo, i want to be with you!...i dont want to go to preschool OR school!!"

but i asked her if she cant wait to start there and also explained to her that she will have lots of fun and make alot of friends too...she suddenly perked up but slowly went

(i prob be with her for an hour on her first day and then go).

She had been joined to my side since she was born

Have you got any books about going to pre school? There are lots around. Maybe you could start reading some to her.

Do you know any other children that are going with her? Maybe some of them could come over to play.

Has she had a visit where you stay?

I know how you feel. I was the same with ds and I'll be the same with dd.

i didnt know about preschool books!

no i dont know any other kids are going same time as her (as im not from round here as its my DPs hometown but the ones who i do know a few that are going to a different school as they live in a different town).

i called yesterday as have been waiting for a letter/call for them to come to my house (they will at the end of the month) for a visit and then go to the preschool for my DD and I to meet other kids before she starts there properly.

im surely she be fine but she thought ill be stuck to her side till she is 16!!

Look on amazon for them . I've got a couple. I've lent them to my friend at the mo though. Sorry.
One has photos as the pictures and one is a story book.
They go throught the routine etc and the sort of things she'll do.

ds wasn't too happy about the idea of going to pre-school alone. He has never been looked after by anyone but family (and the same family members on a regular basis).

He started on Monday (and did Tuesday as well). By an hour into monday morning (which I stayed for) he was fine. He woke up in a bitch of a mood, determined not to go and screamed for about 1/2 hour before we left (and then for another 3/4hr all the way there and well into first part of session). But once he had calmed down enough to meet his keyworker, he was alright to go off with her. I had to stay for bit longer (while he got used to her) and then he yelled 'bye bye mummy' across the room, so I left. Next day, he was off, didn't want to say bye

His pre-school let you stay whole of first session if they want - I don't know if yours do that. But his key worker also made sure she stopped with him and interacted so he got to feel comfortable around her, and then he was alright because he had someone there (IYSWIM).

Also pre-schools are used to this sort of thing and have experience in handling it.

BLS she will be absolutely fine. Shes soo confident and happy she will just totter off and forget about you while she has fun.

even Dp had a chat with her too about me not being there. And i know she be wanting to kick me out eventually!

until 2 weeks ago i felt like you bl - my ds turned 3 in aug and when i mentioned pre-school he said 'but mummy i neeed you... you can't leave me etc. etc.'

on his first day i left after less than 5 mins he ran off to play with barely a second glance - i almost felt put-out!

After the session he was v pleased to see me and gave me a big hug etc. but was absolutely fine. He had never been looked after by anyone but me or dh or gp's before.

the only annoying thing is working out what he actually does at pre-school . according to him he plays with cars - it is all 'i beat the little biy to the car mummy'... or 'the little girl beat me to the car today mummy' so i need to speak to the key worker i think

so all i can say is don't worry....

lol Ds when he went to playgroup used to come home and tell he did 'just nothing'. Am hoping he will be a bit more forthcoming about school nursery!!!
