Son naughty when I collect him from pre school?!

My son will be 4 in December and has been going to pre school since January. He loves it and really enjoys it and for the most part he’s really well behaved when he’s there. The problem begins when I arrive to collect him... he seems to get so excited that I’m there that he can’t seem to control himself. He either starts opening and closing doors, turning the lights on and off and today he ran into the bathroom, turned the tap on and forced his hand underneath and sprayed the water out into the hall and soaked the floor and all the Children’s coats and bags. Pre school have now said they want to do some workshops with him? Whatever that means, didn’t think to ask today when I was there. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can get him to stop doing all of these things? Thanks x

I saw the title and was coming on to say that it is fairly typical to have 'the witching hour' at the end of the day, when they are tired (and probably the adults are too), but they seem quite specific.

I would arrange a meeting with the Pre-school staff (without him in the room) and talk about the behaviour. If it really is just 'switched on' when you arrive, then together you can work out some strategies (having him ready / striaght in and out by you / no 'handover time and another way of passing on information / etc), but the behaviours you describe sound very specific and I would be asking them more about those behaviours and when else they see them.

It happens quite a lot.

Have you tried grabbing hold of him to stop him?
