Incident at daughter's nursery

Anybody with experience with nurseries with an idea what this incident could be?

I live in a big city abroad that is very competitive especially for finding a flat, nursery place etc. It was a nightmare finding a nursery place for my daughter and I have been paying fees at a nursery since August in order to ensure a spot. She is due to start next week.

Today my husband and I along with all other parents received an email calling us to an emergency meeting tomorrow evening. No information other than there is something important to discuss and that all parents must be there. I called the manager to ask if this really includes my family as we have not started at nursery yet... Yes it does.
My husband does not finish work until late so he can't come and my babysitter will arrive 30 minutes after the meeting has already started. That's not ideal... I will be walking into the middle of a very emotionally charged conversation she said, but it is better than not showing up at all.
She wouldn't tell me what it is, just that it doesn't effect everyone.

I get really anxious about meeting new groups of people and hate group arguments, i just feel so uncomfortable. Feeling really worried. Any ideas what it could be?

Nursery closing permanently? No idea! Sounds scary

2128Cl · 06/11/2018 18:45

I'd assume they were closing down! Never heard of a nursery doing anything like this before though.

PeonyTruffle · 06/11/2018 18:47

I would also assume that they were closing. Hope it's better news OP

Maybe one of the nursery staff has done something or been accused of something.

Mammmoo · 06/11/2018 18:55

We had similar when our nursery was closing.

Closing

A police incident involving a member, or members, of staff

A major incident involving a child

Neoflex · 06/11/2018 19:08

Oh fuck. You have all got me reaching for the wine.
I was hoping for an outbreak of headlice or worms...

Sounds like either they are closing down or one of the staff has been accused of something.

Dommina · 06/11/2018 19:14

When I worked in a nursery we had similar when closing down. Was a suprise to many people that worked there too...

Bobbiepin · 06/11/2018 19:19

Any sort of contagious health issue and you'd more than likely get an email.

MartyMcFly1984 · 06/11/2018 19:23

If it doesn’t effect everyone I can’t see it being that they’re closing... who wouldn’t be effected by that?
Most likely one of the other suggestions I’m afraid.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 06/11/2018 19:25

Unfortunately it sounds like they are closing or someone has been accused of something. Head lice or the likes would have just been an email to the parents I think.

Sundayblues13 · 06/11/2018 19:26

OFSTED?

PattiStanger · 06/11/2018 19:27

I'd say closing as well, why else would future parents need to go? Unless they are moving maybe

PoisonousSmurf · 06/11/2018 19:30

Wouldn't be Ofsted as it's abroad.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 06/11/2018 19:32

I'd say they are closing. I would start looking for a new nursery. Any other reason I can think of would result in an email or letter not an official meeting. Sorry it's not what you want to hear but I cannot think what else it could be.

Neoflex · 06/11/2018 20:07

If they are closing, how long do we have? But Marty is right, that would involve everyone. Unless they are letting some kids stay, downsizing?
This is just so shit. Either best case scenario they are really needy and make a massive drama over something trivial, they're closing, or worst case something serious happened with a member of staff. Really hoping it is a. I have already wasted a shitload of money on this place and I will never find another spot.

Closing or being taken over so new management.

Unlikely to be a serious incident with a staff member as new parents wouldn't need to attend, and that person would just leave with as little mention as possible. (If it were the head, it would simply be announced, probably in a letter, that x will be going on leave/ leaving for personal reasons and the replacement is y.)

Dommina · 07/11/2018 19:20

Did you find out? X

MartyMcFly1984 · 09/11/2018 06:56

Any news? I’ve been thinking about this, you sounded understandably stressed about it.

Neoflex · 10/11/2018 08:39

It's not closing, thank goodness.

There had been a serious incident and they wanted to inform and discuss it with all the parents.

I'm relieved but the evening itself was dreadful. Lots of drama among the parents, definitely not the best circumstances to get to know everyone.
