Just over a year between my two littlies, but TWO school years, will this be a problem?

They are really close at the moment, they play together beautifully and I am a bit worried that the two school year difference may change this.... anyone got any experience of this?

Mine did change when dd1 went to secondary school. But i guess that happens with alot of siblings...

They would change anyway, once one was at school. Doesn't mean their relationship would suffer.

I have the opposite, in that there are almost two years between my youngest two, but they are only one school year apart. No big thing, except that there are two years in every class (except reception) so every other year they're in the same class - that has raised the occasional issue.

but I don't want them to change!

Ok, their personalities will...evolve...as they meet new challenges and make new friends.

A friend has 1 school year between hers and it is hard for them each to have separate interests, friends and can be quite competitive. Think some distance can be a good thing. Ours are 3 years apart and play relaly ncoiely together even now (9 and 5)

There are two sisters in one of my classes who are nearly a year apart but as the oldest is an early september baby and the youngest is a late august birthday, they are in the same class but are not twins...

DH had a couple of mates like that Popsycal.

Been thinking about this today. My younger two are very close, but a bit more separation at school would probably have helped both of them at times.

I think part of it is that I don't want them to grow up, they are little for such a short time

I think two school years gap is a good one. It means the younger one is not immediately stepping into the shoes of the older one in terms of teachers, homeworks, projects, curriculum, etc.

Also, thinking ahead, when they are older a 2 yr age gap makes it easier to find an appropriate time to move house (if necessary), and they both have important years for exams and revising at the same time, rather than staggered. This means you can plan celebration holidays, or whatever, for the year when they have both finished early for exams.

If you have 1 school year between them you will have yr9 SATs/GCSEs/A levels every year for ... well ages anyway!

Two years seems to be the most common gap between siblings at our school - so there's more chance of finding a mum with a child in both your DCs classes to help with pick ups & occasional minding

my 2 are 2 and a half years apart and are really close. However, as ds1 is an August baby, there will be 3 school years between them. That feels way too much to me. DS2 is desperate to go and he is only 2!
