Hi guys,
My DD is going to start reception in September and I would love to hear what essentials other mums would buy before school starts?
Also where would you buy it from? Do you get stuff from Amazon?

They don't need pencil cases until year 2 Grin We needed to get wellies and waterproof for outdoor play as they were out everyday whatever the weather but it probably depends on the school

Uniform- go with supermarket stuff so you spend less and can afford more. Stuff will get lost or ruined etc don't buy expensive stuff. Sainsbury have the same on at mo I think. Their polo shirts and pinafores are fab

She will need a water bottle

Lunchbox if not having meals

Sharpies laundry pen . No need for sewing labels.

Book bag

Pencil case not necessary all equipment is provided. However a plastic folder may he useful for keeping the homework and reading record nice. And dry.

Name anything you aren’t happy to lose.

You definitely don't need a pencil case.

Uniform, PE Kit and bag, that's about it.

My daughter started school yesterday and we were given a list of what was needed, there really isn't much. When my son started I bought loads thinking I'd need it but most of it went unused.

Aside from uniform (4 full sets for us) the schools list was:
A full sized backpack
A capped water bottle
A long sleeved apron
A waterproof jacket
Gym shoes, shorts/t-shirt to be left in a small bag in school for P.E

Everything else is optional, a lunch bag/box is handy for trips or if they will be taking packed lunches.

They prefer them to use class stationary to avoid arguments and upset about things getting borrowed or lost, it's handy to have a filled pencil case at home for homework though.

Oh and name labels as you'll want to label EVERYTHING!

I've been using stick ons from Easy2name for 5 years now and they are amazing.

I would also say make sure you have plenty of sock.

And lots of underwear in case of accidents.

Thanks so much guys x

Has the school not got a list on website/sent joining info. IME schools vary quite a lot as to what they require.

I wouldn't even buy a lunch box yet, infants get free school meals and on school trips ours insist on paper bags so they can be thrown away. Just water bottle, snack boxes, uniform. Didn't you get a school list? Ours had school art apron and schools own bag.
