Does Preschool Education Matter?

My DD goes to an outstanding nursery attached to a private school. Unfortunately it shuts during term time and I’m really stuck as to what to do with her over the holidays. DH and I work full time. We can take a few weeks off but that still leaves 7 weeks, which seems far too long for holiday clubs.

I’m thinking of moving her to another nursery that is open year round. The other nursey is lovely and the staff serm grest, but it is rumoured not to be as educationally stimulating.

Does it really matter? My DD is bright, loves books, is good at counting, etc, and part of me thinks she’ll be ready for reception no matter what. On the other hand, I want to give her the best start possible.

Input would be very much appreciated!

Purely anecdotally I have noticed a big difference in the reception kids who didn't attend preschool and those who did. Most of the ones that did preschool seemed to hit the ground running with phonics. Generally those who didn't are relatively behind (dd included). My dd went to a great nursery that did EYFS but very relaxed and if they weren't interested they weren't coerced into learning. I don't regret my decision but I cannot deny that there is a difference.

Thanks. I was hoping to hear it doesn’t matter but think you’re probably right.

Visit nurseries and childminders. All have different approaches and some may suit you better than others.

Alternatively, if you love the one you're at, is there a nursery or childminder who can offer a holiday only space and then maybe carry this on when your child starts school.

Late reply op but we have 2 dc and the one really good nursery attached to a private school we used was far better than any other nursery we’ve used, including a nanny. They also had a better holiday club.
