Methods of discipline in preschool

DD attends a forest nursery. The staff are very gentle and discipline basically involves empathetic limits and discussion with the children. This seems to work brilliantly.

As she will be starting school next year, we're looking for her to start doing a few days at the attached preschool. It seems like a super place but I was quite surprised to see they use a behaviour system that I've seen in primary schools - sun, rain cloud etc with the kids' names on them.

Are 3/4 year olds not a bit young for this? It just didn't sit right with me.

Some staff who work in preschool think that the way to prepare for school is to make early years more like school
Which is quite old fashioned thinking and isn't a very child centred approach
The forest school won't have a problem with discipline because being safe on forest school is paramount, its given the highest priority
The staff are likely to have had more up-to-date training than the preschool
