You need a childminder who can pick up/drop off your dd from the pre-school with the baby. Ask the pre-school if they know any names that already do runs and also your local Childrens Information Service can send you a list of the nearest ones. Go and visit some now, they'll be happy as neither of you will be able to commit yet but at least you'll be able to eliminate one or two.
It's also worth accepting the place but saying you'd really really prefer mornings and please could they bear you in mind if a place becomes available. It honestly might.

I know, I can't get my head around working afternoons either. I'm just thinking about a p/t job next year, my youngest is 2. I'd have to earn enough to pay for his pre-school for the first term as well as a CM to pick him up and feed him, luckily he'll have mornings.
My DD does afternoon pre-school now and actually I'd recommend it for a SAHM with a new baby. No morning rush and your LO might fall asleep in the pram on the walk there so you could even have a nap!
I spent this morning reading in bed while my 2 pottered and played upstairs!

Hi I am in similar situation and have just opted for career break. To make it work you have to get a childminder but at the current rate still quite expensive OR put them both in private nursery -even more expensive. Was gonna get relative to take and collect eldest DD (2.5) from preschool and childminder to have youngest DD(1) but was gonna be too much hassle for the money so decided to give up and try and get a part time job weekends or evenings. Could you not work afternoons? Fortunately DH earning enough to see us through til i find something to fit around kids but it is hard. People with helpful parents and in laws don't know how lucky they are !! I have afternoons at mo but they have promised me mornings from September.
