Story Book advice required

DD is 4 and has always really enjoyed her books. I think we have come to a point where I can start to read her books rather than a different story every night (IYSWIM) I just can't remember which books I was reading at that age. Any good ones to start us off - I was thinking of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Danny Champion of the World - what do you think? TIA

the Padington books have gone down well with my dd 4. She also likes The Faraway Tree books by Edin Blyton. And actually she loves The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe!

Danny is a little grown up I would think....as is Charlie and the chocloate factory. Danny I would think is a year 2 book (6-7 yrs) and Charlie similar.

umm the magic far away tree by Enid Blyton..

we have read lots of the blooming fairy books (ruby the red fairy etc), shetie the shetland pony books, my naughty little sister, Milly Molly Mandy (a little twee), Mrs. Pepperpot.

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe yes but is 4 a bit young? Ohh I would love to read her that

What kind of stuff does she like at the moment?

The ones you suggest we did at a bit older with my DS.

My DD is 4 and we have started 'proper' chapter books and she is really enjoying Amelia Jane after this will do Faraway tree as Ghostof suggested and by then they have the idea and they choose them themselves.

p.s. DO NOT do weather fairy nonsense stuff!

Oh ok cazzy (it's been ages since I read Charlie and Danny). I haven't come across Sophie so will look into that. The Magic Faraway Tree is one I remember, will try and get a copy.

Thanks Dimpled will look in Amelia Jane too. She is obviously "coping" with chapter books is she? I think DD will really like the idea of her story following on every night.

Fantastic Mr Fox is a shorter Roald Dahl book that dd2 enjoyed when she was 4. Clever Polly and the stupid wolf is good too although a bit old fashioned.

There's also James and the Giant Peach (ds liked it but was a bit scared ...) and Mr Esio Trot - oh, and the Magic Finger ... I'm a bit of a Dahl fan!

We're reading Charlotte's Web which dd is enjoying. Fantastic Mr Fox was a winner, and the Twits had her giggling. Did try Magic Faraway Tree, and she enjoyed it for a while but got a bit bored. At 4 they do still love pictures as well. I think her favourite at the moment is the Enormous Crocodile which is a good mixture of story and Quentin Blake's brilliant pictures.

my dd4 has an older brother7 so she sees it as being all growed up type thing. She is coping but Amelia Jane has a picture on about every other page so she can keep track. she does really enjoy it and so do I.

Will also take a trip to the library tomorrow and we'll have a look at a few "chapter books" and she can choose one herself.

We have just started on the Oz series - the language is quite a stretch but ds still gets the gist, and finds them terribly exciting

there are a few bloodthirsty moments which I tend to tone down

other than that I highly recommend as they are such good stories that they are interesting for adults too.

My Naughty Little Sister is also excellent, and if you can get hold of the Bullerby children stories they are our top family favourites atm

Oh the Jamie and Angus stories are also nice for this age. By Anne Fine.
