One or two mornings a week for 20 month old?

I want ds2 to start preschool in September, when he will be 20 months old. I suspect he may be clingy and ds1 didn't start preschool until he was 2.5 so I have no experience of sending such a young child. It is for 2 1/2 hours per morning, and whatever I choose will be for a whole year (-so, until he is 2.8 years old). Is it best for him to go for just 1 morning for a gradual transition in his first year or 2 so that it is more regular from the beginning?

start with 2, the gap between one a week and the next wk will be too long. go for 2 in row if you can or else a tues and a thurs.

I'd say 2 sessions as well becaus a week is a really long time in the eyes of a toddler. Kids who go more often might have stronger friendship bonds.

I put my DD in for just one morning at 2.3 because we had a lot of other activities and I didn't want her out 2 mornings. I never had any trouble with her leaving me when I dropped her off and I think the gap actually helped as she was ready to go again after a whole week had elapsed!! I made sure she new the name of her keyworker and talked about her a lot at home and the activities they were doing and she accepted and looked forward to it. 4 months later I put her in for another morning which has gone down OK.
