Do they have any educational value or are they just for fun? Does anyone's child have one? What kind of things do they play/learn on them?
thanks

I suppose the laptop type toys get them used to using IT equipment but they tend to be very limited in what they can learn on them. My 3 year old quite happily uses the house PC. The Cbeebies web site has loads of brilliant activities. We just got him a childs mouse at Christmas to make it easier for him to navigate around.

yep agree with stretchmarks, my dc's have all been using the family computers since they were 3. Cbeebies and NickJnr, Disney Playhouse websites are all good.

DD2 aged 5 is doing very well in IT at school - and DD1 aged 7 has been showing her teacher a few things.

well my ds (2.10) got a vtech laptop for christmas.....he has done amazingly well with it, he has learnt to regonise numbers, find the numbers on the keyboard and count the moving pictures and type in the answer..
he's also learnt to find vowels!!!!!!!!!! and a couple of the letters in the alphabet..
the one he has came with 2 books that interact with the laptop....and it as loads and loads of fun games to play which teach at the same time.
the mouse is very basic, one button to click and stuck down so you can only move up , down, left, right.
i really would recommend it...great price too

My 4 year old has a Disney Princess Laptop - got it for Christmas - it teaches basic sums and numbers and letters. She loves it but likes that sort of learning thing.

i am not keen on that sort of thing but then I dont do toys with 'power'

my DD aged 3yrs 2 months was given the leapfrog writing desk for Xmas. Since then she has learnt to spell half a dozen three letter words - she loves it and plays with it every day. I would say it was her best christmas present!
