Should nursery tell me where we are on waiting list

I applied for my child's nursery place a year ago, to start this sept. I've spoken to the nursery a few times now and they won't tell me where my kid is on the waiting list. I'm starting to doubt they've put her on the list. They can't tell me how many places they're expecting to become vacant in September when kids leave the nursery to go to school. They are so vague about everything. How pushy should I be?

Is it a private nursery?

They might not operate a 'first come, first served' list, but offer places to those who want the most hours.

If you are only looking at a few hours a week, you may never get to the top of the list.

You should certainly know by now, in my opinion. I confirmed nursery places for September 6 weeks ago.
