I could send DS to a bog standard playgroup where they run around like mad things (sounds fine to me, I don't like the idea of academic preschool).
Or a mousey little group where they learn lots of independence skills, and other parents alway say of their children who went there "She's come on so much!" But I think he'd be bored to bits becuz it's so quiet. I just didn't like the 'feel' of the Montessori nursery when I visited, but wonder if I'm missing something.
