Embarrassing bad habits to break

My ds (3 in a few weeks) has a few habits that I am finding hard to break - embarrasing ones....he will be starting pre-school in a couple of weeks and I am worried what they are going to think/write up about him.. The first is smelling feet/caressing feet/sometimes looks as if he is making love to the feet! (No he has never seen anything at home-my own mum has questioned me about that! saying that if it wasn't her grandson she would report stuff like that if she worked in a nursery!)Help! The second is going around saying "smelly bottom" and smelling mine or my partners bottom..... Lastly the security blanket the one I should have broken him away from ages ago but just couldn't (the least of my problems!).....I am worried though any ideas on tackling them? I don't want him doing anything like this at preschool and maybe he won't but I just don't know!

I'm sure you will find your DS will behave differently in Pre-school & keep his little habits for home. My DS (3) has a best mate (also 3)in pre-school and his Mum constantly worries about his obsession with his parents feet - apparently talks to them & won't stop kissing them etc.. But I have never seen this & the Nursery say they haven't either.

Should I tell the nursery ? I don't want them to get a shock one day or am I making too much of it?

Maybe mention it - they will probably have seen similar little fetishes before! Ignoring it completely or distracting him with something else is probably how they will tackle it. And I'm sure the habits will fade pretty quickly. My nephew used to stroke women's bottoms with an admiring smile aged 2.5!!

oh, and the security blanket... they may have a special place he can put it. lots of children have muzzies or soft toys for sleeping at nursery - just try to make sure you have a spare in case it gets left there/lost! Good luck

My DS wouldn't give up his dummy but when he got to nursery, the nursery teacher told him he wasn't allowed it there and he promptly took it out of his mouth and gave it to me and did so every day until he finally got rid of it. It may be the same for your DS's security blanket. I think they set the boundaries from the start and children quickly learn what they can/can't do.

As for smelling feet etc. my (same) DS tells me to smell his bum when he lets one rip - of course I dont - and school has never mentioned this to me (and by God I hope they don't ) so I'm assuming that he doesn't do it there!

Also we have been so ostentatiously chilled out about little accidents in potty training I am starting to think he feels getting to the loo on time is optional
