Does your playgroup go outside in this weather?

Hi Just picked up my dd from pg and discovered that they have been outside in this weather for 20 minutes ( really throwing it down). Sent in non waterproof coat which is now absolutely soaked through as is her trousers. PG leader rather sheepishly said that if we have waterproof trousers please could we send them next time. I have had 2 previous children at the same pg and I know that in the past they have always stayed in if weather really bad so this has really surprised me. She added that ofstead states that the children should go out in all weathers. I pointed out that the local primary school doesn't in the same weather so why were they. She said that they should do. Should I be cross?

Mine has been out today , just turned one. I'd left wellies and a warm coat so it was fine.

Dropped dd off at nursery and they were all puddle splashing in their wellies. All parents are aware at our nursery that they go out in all weathers, so we wouldn't send them in coats that weren't waterproof.

Maybe sent a full change of clothes for when they get wet? I bet they had a fantastic time!!

Yes they go out most days.
Wellies and waterproofs are must.

Yes all weathers, if not at nursery we would take them out in all weathers. It has rained hard here for weeks.

Def send in some wet weather gear

DS1's nursery sent home a newsletter last week asking parents to make sure their children were sent in with suitable clothes (wellies, hat, gloves etc) so that all the children could participate in the outdoor activities.

They're meant to be doing football outside this afternoon.

Thanks for replies. I think I am just annoyed because they haven't done that before so my child was unprepared as was the rest of the playgroup. My dd said that there were little girls splashing in puddles in t bar shoes who were then going to spend the rest of the day in wet tights. If we were told that they would now be going outside in all weathers then I would be happy to send appropriate clothes but usually its straight out of the car into pg and then only out again if the weather is dry.

We make it clear to parents from the beginning that the children can choose to be outside everyday. We have a large covered outside area which we encourage the children to use if it's absolutely pelting down, but if it's raining lightly then we expect the children's coats and clothes to be suitable.

Yes but they have all-in-one waterproofs to go over their clothes and we send in wellies to keep there anyway. I have often driven past to see them splashing about in the garden in the rain.

yep, I was out both morning and afternoon today at work. We did keep the children under the covered area this afternoon, and brought them in when the wind really got up, as a safety measure - lots of trees at the perimeter of the playground (not ours). Unless it is so windy or icy that it is really unsafe we have access to outdoors every day.

our nursery had a supply of waterproof trousers and jackets and wellies so the children could go outside if they wanted

It's generally done in nurseries etc but my older dcs school stay in even if it's just spitting! And they have good from ofsted!
I've known childminders be down graded for not using outside in all weathers
