Best Nurseries….Stanmore / Radlett / Elstree

Hi everyone,
We are hoping to move to the stanmore / radlett /elstree area very soon. Our DS will be 2 very soon & we have to think of good nurseries for him that would ideally would prep him well for the top schools in the hertfordshire area - Habs, the northwood preps etc for the 4+ assessments. As we are very unfamiliar with the area, I would be so grateful if anyone could let me know which are the best nurseries in the area I'd mentioned. Again, thanks everyone for the suggestions in advance !

Do nursery schools really prep toddlers for competitive selective schools?

Surely that is a step too far. I feel so sorry for the children of over aspiration all parents.

Thanks looknow. A lot of the nurseries whose websites I read, speak of their facilities, their strong nurturing factor, along with activities that stimulate young minds for kids between 2 - 5. A lot of kids from these nurseries seem to do very well at the 4+ assessments. I was only asking for a few names of these nurseries, where my DS could physically, emotionally & mentally grow in his formative years & hopefully help him when he does these 4+assessments. Judging from your first sentence, you obviously did not know this. Maybe you are quite happy for your kids to be at nursery till the age of 10 !
I feel so sorry for the parents of children who point a finger at parents who only want the best for their child.

Your first sentence clearly states that you are looking for nurseries that prep children for competitive selective schools. I find this shocking. You did not mention nurturing environments that stimulate.

We all want the best for our children. My children are happily in non selective state schools, not nurseries.

Whatever makes you happy my dear ! Its thanks to parents like yourself that other children have more of an opportunity at selective schools & we need to thank you for that.
You are obviously happy at the laid back, casual & hands off attitude and school you have your children in - good for you. I have different aims for my children & thats what I will work towards. Whether it shocks you or not is completely irrelevant and of no consequence or importance. If anything I find your attitude quite amusing, but then again, to each his own.

Whizz kids but its in mill hill I think

You'll struggle to find anywhere even half decent at that age. Most don't employ qualified teachers and in my experience they shy away from even basic phonics teaching and any number work is a bonus. I don't know about nurseries attached to the schools you'll be interested in but think most only start from 'rising 4'.

Preschools that prep from the private schools will start in earnest two years before reception entry, so it depends when in the year your DS is born - if he is summer born then he will be younger when he needs to start. Don't know any in that area personally though.

First place radlett. Also heard good things about whizz kids.

Hi I'd appreciate if you could tell me what you decided in the end and what information you found out? I live in mill hill but I'm willing to travel for a good nursery. Long term would love her to go north London collegiate or habs. I'm so confused with nurseries. There's Shannon childcare in edgewise which seems good, I've just looked at first place nurseries in taller going to go bushy to look at that one. Any ideas? Bright little stars in mill hill is booked till December 2016!
